At the end of that initial list, you can access an alphabetical listing of community physicians with privileges at Brown University Health hospitals. All physicians in Find a Doctor have the opportunity to have a picture or video posted on the site. Neither the order of physicians, nor the presence or absence of a photo or video, in Find a Doctor is intended to reflect any preference, priority, or recommendation by Brown University Health. Daphne Koinis-Mitchell, PhD
Clinical Psychologist
Daphne Koinis-Mitchell, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist with an interest in pediatric psychology and the vice chair of research for Hasbro Children’s department of pediatrics. She is the director of the Community Asthma Programs at Hasbro Children's and the principal investigator of several US National Institutes of Health-funded studies focusing on cultural and contextual factors affecting disease management behaviors and morbidity in urban children. In addition, she is professor (research) in the departments of pediatrics and psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She has a particular interest in working with urban children with chronic illnesses and psychological concerns. She has a particular interest in working with urban children with chronic illnesses and psychological concerns.
Dr. Koinis-Mitchell received her BA from Boston College. She completed her graduate work at Columbia University and the University of Massachusetts.
Research Interests
Dr. Koinis-Mitchell has received continuous funding from the NIH since 2002 to study multi-level mechanisms that contribute to disparities in pediatric health outcomes in urban children, mainly in the areas of asthma, sleep health, obesity and lifestyle behaviors (e.g., physical activity). Her research includes observational and experimental studies, as well as efficacy and effectiveness trials. Her studies focus on the integration of biological, behavioral and clinical processes that will ultimately lead to personalized treatment approaches to improve health outcomes and decrease the burden in high-risk urban children with multiple co-morbidities.
Dr. Koinis-Mitchell is the principal investigator of a study funded by the National Institutes of Health that examines the co-occurrence of sleep quality and academic performance in urban children who have asthma and allergic rhinitis, as well as healthy children.
