Learning to Ride on Her Own: Sadie’s Story

At the Bravo Bradley fundraising gala in June 2026, eighteen-year-old Sadie shared her story of struggle, resilience, and hope. Just having graduated from high school, Sadie told supporters that there was a time when she never imagined reaching this moment. “I stand here now before you all at 18, an age I never thought I would reach,” Sadie said.

After receiving inpatient care, including at Bradley Hospital, Sadie made the decision to continue healing through Bradley’s outpatient program. Returning home and back to school was not easy. “Outpatient did not make my life easier,” Sadie shared. “In many ways, it made things harder.” But with the support of Bradley’s outpatient team, Sadie began building the skills and confidence to keep moving forward.

Sadie described outpatient as feeling like she was “three years old again, learning how to ride a bike.” Bradley staff, she said, were there “holding my hand,” and over time, “they let go and applauded as I learned how to ride on my own.” Through that care, Sadie learned how to manage difficult thoughts and emotions in a new way. “Through the Bradley outpatient program, I have been taught how to live alongside them instead of being consumed by them,” she said.

Today, Sadie sees beauty and possibility where she once saw none. She spoke movingly about rediscovering joy in everyday moments and imagining a future she once thought was out of reach. Sadie reminded supporters exactly what in attendance what Bradley makes possible: “Supporting Bradley’s outpatient programs means giving kids like me the chance to see a future they never thought they would have.”
