Bradley Hospital, the nation’s first psychiatric
hospital focusing exclusively on children and
adolescents, has earned the distinction of ‘Top
Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2011’ by The
Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health
organizations in the U.S. Bradley Hospital is the only
hospital in Rhode Island and the only psychiatric
hospital in New England to receive this
designation.

Bradley Hospital's new, state-of-the-art inpatient building, the
centerpiece of a campus-wide modernization project, was selected
for a Building of America award as one of New England's most
innovative design projects of the year.

Rhode Island Hospital is designated the principal teaching
hospital of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University
and Bradley Hospital and The Miriam Hospital are designated
major teaching affiliates.

Bradley Hospital is one of three hospitals nationwide selected
as a case study award winner by the Quality Indicator Project,
an international organization that seeks to improve patient
care.

Lifespan Quality Award
Bradley Hospital's department of behavioral education received
the 2009 Lifespan Barnet Fain Quality Award. Established in
2002, this award recognizes outstanding efforts by teams or
individuals to improve the quality of care provided by
Lifespan's partner hospitals.

The team was selected for developing and implementing a
hospital-wide initiative to address the most challenging
undertaking for clinical staff at all psychiatric hospitals,
including Bradley Hospital: responding to patients who are
exhibiting disturbing and dangerous behaviors and may require
physical intervention.

Blair L. Sadler International Arts and Healing Competition,
First Place Professional Award
"Art as a Source of Healing," a Rhode Island School of Design
fine arts course that pairs students with patients at Bradley
Hospital, received a top honor in the 2008 Blair L. Sadler
International Arts and Healing Competition. The members of the
review panel say the program “represents one of the most
innovative arts projects, demonstrating a unique partnership
between a hospital, a medical school and an art school.” More

Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Award - Silver
The Physicians' Committee for Breastfeeding in Rhode Island and
the Rhode Island Department of Health honored the hospital for
effectively accommodating employees who continue to breastfeed
their infants when they return to work.

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
This award was given in recognition of 75 years of leadership
and service, treating children and adolescents with mental
disorders, training future generations of outstanding mental
health practioners, furthering the science of normal and
psychopathological development, partnering with the community
and advocating on behalf of all children.
