Children 8-11 years with social development challenges are invited to participate in a weekly Social Skills group. The program is aimed at increasing flexibility, emotion-regulation, and perspective-taking in children who tend to be rigid and inflexible in social situations. Each session involves an interactive lesson, small group practice activities, and structured play with social coaching. Parents will meet separately to discuss strategies to encourage and support skills practice outside of the group sessions.
Registration is open year round. New groups start every three months. Groups will be filled on a first come, first served basis and children will be matched according to age and level of need.
Parent Group Leader: Bev W. Rich, PMHCNS-BC is an advanced practice nurse who has been at Bradley Hospital for more than 20 years.
Child Group Leader: Angela Stewart, PhD is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior with the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University who specializes in child psychology.
